What is an Encyclopedia?
The term encyclopedia is derived from classical Greek meaning "rounded education" (enkyklios paideia, "circle of learning").Encyclopedias are a repertoire of knowledge. They provide an insight about specific topics and present an orderly assembly of the facts essential to an understanding of each topic. Most of the modern Encyclopedias are designed to serve as a reference point from which a reader can proceed to other sources that contain more detailed inform.
Encyclopedia’s can contain general articles on every topic available. These serve as a guide on how to do a variety of things. There are encyclopedias that cover a wide variety of topics but from a particular cultural, ethnic, or national perspective. These describe the origin of a concept, detailed history and other related articles. Encyclopedias can also be field specific such as Medical Encyclopedia produced by A.D.A.M., Inc, U.S.A. Works vary in the breadth of material and the depth of discussion.
